The committee members from York Factory First Nation were generous enough to invite the Kischi Sipi Namao Committee to their community, and on June 27, 2018 the KSNC held their meeting at the arena in York Landing. Local community members attended the open meeting where they heard a presentation on the committee, updates on the KSNC’s recent activities, and news of the latest Sturgeon stockings by the Grand Rapids Fish Hatchery, which was attended by members of TCN.

The attendees had the chance let the committee know what they want to see the KSNC do by filling out comment cards. Some of the suggestions included more youth and Elder involvement, workshops, more communication, aquariums, and field trips.

Unfortunately due to weather many of the other communities’ members were not able to make it to the meeting; the flight booked for Gillam to War Lake was not able to take off. But the meeting went on with representatives from YFFN and TCN, and the highlight of the day was having students of York Landing complete Lake Sturgeon activities in the afternoon! There were 5 stations set up where the students got to learn, hands on, by completing puzzles, crafts, and even a “Sturgeon’s Supper” game. Each student got a drawstring back-pack of fun KSNC items for completing the stations and there was a draw for 3 grand prize winners. Everyone had a great time and the KSNC is looking forward to having meetings in the other member communities in the future. We could be coming to your community next – !
